Web-Engine Sentry

Web-Engine Sentry is a plugin that offers protection for comments, administrative login, and form submissions. While it won’t prevent human submissions, its primary objective is to make it challenging for automated programs to access your site.

This is a privacy-first plugin – no tracking or personal data is collected by our servers, beyond that necessary to account for your usage and authenticate you as a user.

This plugin utilizes the web-engine cloud services to generate challenges for your users to solve. Registration is free and required to use the service.

Sentry is in public beta. During the beta everything is free except text (SMS) code verification, which uses credits because each message costs us money. The puzzle captcha, email code verification and the login firewall cost nothing during the beta. After the beta, successful solves are charged in credits – pay as you go for what you use only – and each site carries a small monthly platform fee, with your first site free for 3 months. The basic image captcha is always free.

Please note that the basic Captcha can be easily solved by AI within a second. We strongly recommend enabling the puzzle, email or text methods, which generate more robust challenges providing enhanced protection.

Highly available and cloud-powered. Web-Engine Sentry is served from our cloud platform, distributed across multiple datacentres for resilience. Each layer – the plugin loader, the challenge client, and our API – is designed to fail over automatically between datacentres, so even a full regional outage won’t stop your logins, forms, and comments from being defended. Protection continues transparently, with nothing for you to configure and no interruption to your visitors.
