About this plugin

Add a playable game to any post or page in one step. Games run in a sandboxed iframe served by trysolitaire.com, so there is nothing to install or maintain. Your readers need no account and no sign-up, and a game keeps working offline once it has loaded.

22 games: Klondike, Spider (1/2/4 suits), FreeCell, Mahjong Solitaire, Pyramid, TriPeaks, 2048, Golf, Yukon, Russian, Forty Thieves, Double Klondike, Australian Patience, Canfield, Easthaven, Eight Off, Baker’s Game, Baker’s Dozen, Spiderette, Scorpion, Wasp, Beleaguered Castle.

Two ways to embed:

  1. The TrySolitaire Game block. Pick the game, theme, card style and language in the editor, and see a live preview.

  2. The [trysolitaire] shortcode:

    [trysolitaire game=”spider” suits=”2″ theme=”navy” lang=”en”]

Attributes: game, theme (dark-green, dark, navy, midnight, teal, light), cards (card face style), lang (en, es, fr, de, nl, hi), draw (1 or 3, Klondike-family), suits (1, 2 or 4, Spider-family), timer, moves, hints, fullscreen (true/false), sound (on/off), credit (yes/no, default no).

The embed is responsive and adapts its aspect ratio to phones and tablets.

The plugin adds no link to your page unless you turn on the credit link. The game frame, which trysolitaire.com serves, shows a small “Play on TrySolitaire” link.

Mahjong Solitaire opens on the Turtle layout.

External services

This plugin relies on trysolitaire.com, a game service run by the plugin’s author. The games run there, so the plugin cannot show them without it. The plugin itself sends no data: it adds an iframe to your page.

When a visitor views a page with the block or the shortcode, the visitor’s browser loads the game from https://trysolitaire.com/embed/{game}. The frame is lazy-loaded, so this happens as it nears the screen. Like any page load, the request carries the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent, and usually your site’s address as the referrer.

Inside the frame:

  • The game keeps its statistics and settings in the visitor’s browser. It sets no cookies.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies.
  • The icon font loads from cdnjs.cloudflare.com.

trysolitaire.com is hosted on Cloudflare.
