OZD ImageFileX – Image Converter & Text Graphics

v1.1.0 · by Sadık Özdoğan

Convert, optimize, compress, and resize images locally. Create WebP, AVIF, JPEG, PNG, and text graphics without an external service.

About this plugin

OZD ImageFileX is a privacy-friendly image converter and text graphics plugin that works entirely inside the WordPress administration area. Convert Media Library files or images uploaded from your computer to JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF; resize or crop them; and save the results to WordPress or download them individually or as a ZIP file.

No account, API key, or external image-processing service is required. Original Media Library files are not overwritten.

Why use OZD ImageFileX?

  • Process images privately on your own WordPress server.
  • Convert selected images or the entire Media Library with no total image limit and no external account.
  • Regenerate registered WordPress, theme, and plugin image sizes for existing attachments.
  • Keep original Media Library files unchanged.
  • Prepare images using ready-made dimensions for popular social media platforms.
  • Turn text into shareable graphics without leaving WordPress.
  • Save converted files to the Media Library, download them, or do both.

Image conversion

  • Select one or more images from the WordPress Media Library.
  • Upload up to 30 images in one request, with a maximum of 20 MB per file.
  • Create JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF output when the server supports the selected format.
  • Resize while preserving the aspect ratio or crop to exact dimensions.
  • Set width, height, and output quality.
  • Save results to the Media Library, download them, or do both.
  • Download multiple results as a ZIP file when ZipArchive is available.
  • Apply common Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn dimensions.

Separate tool tabs

  • Single Image Conversion accepts one Media Library image or one uploaded file.
  • Bulk Image Conversion accepts multiple files or the entire Media Library.
  • Regenerate Image Sizes, Social Media, Text to Image, System Status, Help, Documentation, Support, and Settings remain separate tool tabs.
  • Tools use an accessible tablist with tab/tabpanel roles, aria-selected, and linked panel labels. Left/Right arrows move tab focus; Home/End reach the first/last tab; Enter or Space activates it. Tab moves into the active panel.
  • Switching tabs loads content without a page reload and retains visited tool nodes, form values, and ongoing jobs. Browser Back/Forward restores the tab URL. Loading failures preserve the current tool.
  • All tools share a connected folder-style tab strip. The selected tab joins the white content panel. On narrow screens the strip scrolls horizontally, keeping labels readable. Keyboard focus remains visible and the active tab is brought into view. Without JavaScript, links retain server-rendered navigation.
  • Success and error notices distinguish one image, batches, and image-size regeneration.

Whole-library conversion

  • Administrators can select Entire Media Library, preview all image attachments with 20 per page, and process the entire snapshot.
  • Media Library selections larger than 30 are supported. There is no total library selection or job limit.
  • Images are processed one at a time in bounded requests; new output copies are not added to the running job.
  • Per-image results include source ID, filename, success/error, size statistics where applicable, and download/media links.
  • Separate success and failure counters remain visible during processing. Completion explicitly identifies batches with failed images. Filter failed images and browse all result pages; normal per-image errors do not stop later images.
  • Download the finished ZIP, then use Return to ImageFileX to clear results and return to the form. Results stay visible until you choose to return; no automatic redirect interrupts downloads.
  • Pause after the current image and resume remaining images on the same page. Keep the page open; leaving/reloading discards its in-memory queue. A stalled request has a 90-second client deadline; uncertain outcomes pause the job and are never retried automatically.
  • Global authorization loss pauses the job. Each attachment still requires edit permission.
  • Conversion creates new files and media records when saving; it does not replace existing page URLs or original attachments.
  • The existing request/ZIP workflow for direct uploads and selections of up to 30 remains available. In sequential mode, successful outputs are collected into a combined ZIP in chunks of up to 20 files when ZipArchive is available. A ZIP failure pauses sequential conversion; retry the ZIP and resume, or explicitly continue with individual downloads. Individual links are shown when the job finishes (or after choosing to continue without ZIP), preventing early downloads from disrupting ZIP assembly. The ZIP link expires 30 minutes after finalization; individual links expire 30 minutes after creation. Very large archives still depend on server disk space and ZIP processing resources.

Regenerate registered image sizes

  • Open Regenerate Image Sizes to view dimensions and crop rules registered by WordPress, the active theme, and plugins.
  • Process selected Media Library images or, for administrators, the entire library.
  • Choose which registered sizes to rebuild.
  • Create missing/incorrectly sized thumbnails, including physically missing files that still have metadata, or regenerate all selected sizes.
  • New sub-size files are linked to the existing attachment ID and metadata; the main image and old thumbnail files are retained. Old thumbnail cleanup and replacement of URLs already embedded in page content are not included.
  • Missing mode compares dimensions and file existence; changed crop rules at the same dimensions require all-sizes mode.
  • Use the current attached main image as the source, preserving prior WordPress crops/rotations and filename edit hashes used by responsive srcset. The larger pre-edit/original upload is not substituted.
  • Respect WordPress crop/scale rules without enlarging smaller sources. Sizes requiring no downsize are skipped.
  • Regeneration uses normal WordPress image-editor encoding and output-format filters; conversion compression settings are not applied automatically.
  • Show per-image created/skipped counts and errors, including partial regeneration when one size fails.
  • Source files must be readable local files in the uploads directory. Remote-only/offloaded media must be restored locally first. Processing limits remain 20 MB, 8192 pixels per side, 40 million source pixels, and 12 million target pixels. GIF/SVG regeneration is not supported.
  • CSS-only dimensions cannot be discovered automatically; the theme must register actual image sizes.

Image optimization and compression

  • Keep the source format (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF) or choose another output format.
  • Select Standard conversion to retain the 1.0.0 encoding behavior.
  • Choose lossy JPEG, WebP, or AVIF compression and control quality from 1 to 100.
  • Choose lossless PNG compression or true lossless WebP encoding.
  • PNG always uses lossless compression; lossy PNG is not offered.
  • Detect Imagick builds that ignore lossy WebP quality using a small in-memory codec probe. Use a compatible GD encoder instead when available; otherwise return an explanation. No source images or external services are used for this check.
  • Lossless WebP requires an Imagick build with WebP support, or GD with PHP 8.1+ and IMG_WEBP_LOSSLESS. The produced WebP bitstream is checked before keeping the result.
  • JPEG and AVIF lossless encoding are not supported. Unsupported combinations return an explanation instead of silently producing a lossy image.
  • Compare original and output file sizes and the percentage reduction or increase for each successful result.
  • Fit images within width and height limits, preserve the aspect ratio, or crop using the existing controls. Smaller images are not enlarged.

Lossless refers to compression of the processed image pixels. Resizing, cropping, EXIF orientation, color-space conversion, and the server image editor’s bit-depth/alpha handling may alter source pixels. Original metadata and file bytes are not preserved by re-encoding. Quality is ignored in lossless mode. Compression cannot guarantee a smaller file; increases are reported. Size statistics compare the input and main output file, excluding generated Media Library thumbnails. Original files remain unchanged.

Text graphics

  • Turn text into shareable graphics with bundled DejaVu Sans, Noto Sans, and Open Sans fonts.
  • Control font weight, font size, colors, padding, line height, quality, and alignment.
  • Use GD with FreeType or Imagick, depending on the server configuration.

Privacy and security

  • Review image-library and format support on the System Status screen.
  • Use random, user-bound download links that expire after 30 minutes.
  • Keep download-only output in the server temporary directory.
  • Remove downloaded files immediately and clean abandoned temporary files with a scheduled task.
  • Allow only logged-in users with the upload_files capability to process images.

Languages

The source language is English and a complete Turkish translation is bundled. Administrators can choose Use the WordPress language, Turkish, or English from OZD ImageFileX > Settings. Additional WordPress.org language packs can be added later without changing the plugin architecture.

Explicit converter output formats are protected from thumbnail output-format remapping during the save operation only. Editors without support for the requested target format are excluded, including in standard mode. Failed output verification distinguishes empty files, unreadable images, and MIME mismatches.

The plugin uses the WordPress image editor API for normal image conversion. WordPress selects an available compatible editor, such as GD or Imagick.

External services and privacy

All image and text processing takes place on the WordPress server. OZD ImageFileX does not send uploaded images, entered text, site information, or usage data to ImageFileX or another external service.

The Help, Documentation, and Support screens contain optional links to pages operated by the plugin author on imagefilex.com:
