About this plugin

Infinico Image Optimizer helps you speed up your WordPress website by generating modern next-generation image formats (WebP and AVIF) locally on your own web server. Convert individual media files or process your entire media library in batches, fine-tune compression levels, and monitor performance gains from an intuitive admin dashboard.

All image processing occurs strictly on your local hosting server through WordPress native image editors (GD or Imagick). No third-party API keys, cloud offloading, recurring monthly subscriptions, or external data transfers are required.

Why Infinico Image Optimizer?

Unlike standard cloud-dependent image compressors, Infinico Image Optimizer offers a completely self-hosted, privacy-first, and resilient approach:

  • Local Processing: Images are processed on your server without an external conversion service.
  • Dual Next-Gen Formats: Generate lightweight WebP and cutting-edge AVIF files with independent quality controls.
  • Original File Retention: Original images remain on disk when a converted image becomes the active attachment source.
  • Frontend & Elementor Rewriting: Replaces known image URLs in post content and rendered Elementor widgets.
  • Adaptive Resource Management: Configurable batch sizing and automated WP-Cron retry scheduling prevent server memory exhaustion on shared hosting.
  • Private Logging & Metrics: Real-time bandwidth transfer savings and system activity logs stored securely in your database without exposing public log files.

Features

  • WebP and AVIF output, when supported by your hosting environment.
  • Individual and bulk conversion from the plugin’s media management screen.
  • Separate quality settings for WebP and AVIF.
  • Optional automatic conversion after upload, with scheduled retries when another conversion is running.
  • Repeat bulk runs that reuse valid unchanged conversions and evaluate changed sources or quality settings.
  • Output validation before activating a converted image.
  • Attachment source and metadata updates that account for WordPress-generated scaled and rotated images.
  • Replacement of known image URLs in post content and rendered Elementor widgets.
  • Original files retained to protect existing links.
  • Private conversion logs with viewing, export, and clearing controls.

Supported images

Input: JPEG/JPG, PNG, static GIF, WebP, and AVIF, subject to the image libraries available on your server.

Output: WebP and AVIF. Your server must have a WordPress-compatible GD or Imagick editor that supports the requested format.

Animated GIF conversion is not supported. The plugin does not promise animation preservation for other animated formats; use static images.

How image replacement works

When source replacement is enabled, a validated converted file becomes the active attachment source. The plugin also maps known old image URLs to converted URLs in post content and rendered Elementor widgets.

This does not rewrite external stylesheets, arbitrary theme files, CDN URLs, or previously cached HTML. Some background images or custom integrations may continue to use originals. Clear relevant caches after conversion and verify your site’s image requests.

Originals and previous optimized files are retained. Reported savings describe the difference in image file sizes for delivery, not disk space reclaimed. Conversions may use additional storage, and smaller output is not guaranteed for every image.

Privacy and data storage

The plugin does not send images to an external conversion service. Conversion records and recent logs are stored in your WordPress database; logs can include attachment titles and error messages. Log controls require administrator permissions.

On an administrator visit after updating from a development build, the plugin migrates recent legacy file logs into private storage and attempts to remove its old public log files. An admin notice appears if cleanup fails.
