About this plugin

Show prices in each reader’s local currency

Writing a Japan guide? A ticket might cost JPY 20,000. That’s the price someone will actually see in Japan, but for a reader in the US, UK, Belgium, or Canada, it may be hard to know what that means at a glance.

AutoCurr keeps the original price visible and automatically shows the equivalent in the reader’s local currency next to it. Enter the source price once; AutoCurr handles conversion and automatic exchange-rate updates.

AutoCurr is a WordPress currency converter built for prices inside regular posts and pages. You don’t need an API key, a separate AutoCurr account, or WooCommerce to use it. It does not process checkout or payments.

Getting Started

After installing and activating AutoCurr Free, add this shortcode to your content:

[autocurr amount="26" currency="EUR"]

Here, 26 is the price and EUR is the currency. You do not need to specify target currencies such as USD, GBP, or CAD. AutoCurr determines the visitor’s local currency automatically.

The original EUR 26 stays visible. Readers who already use EUR see the price once. If the reader uses another supported currency, AutoCurr shows the converted amount alongside EUR 26.

That is it.

How it works

  1. Add the actual source price.
  2. AutoCurr determines the visitor’s local currency.
  3. The source price stays visible and the local conversion is added when available.
  4. AutoCurr keeps exchange-rate data updated automatically.

You choose which prices AutoCurr handles using the shortcode in Free or the visual workflow in Pro. It does not scan your site and replace every number. Once you mark a price, currency detection, conversion, and rate updates happen automatically.

AutoCurr Free includes

  • Automatic visitor currency detection
  • Automatic local currency conversion
  • Original source price remains visible
  • Broad currency support
  • Simple [autocurr] shortcode
  • Automatic exchange-rate updates
  • No API key required by default
  • No AutoCurr account required
  • Works in normal WordPress posts and pages
  • Source price remains visible if conversion is unavailable

Why keep the original currency?

If a hotel costs JPY 20,000, you can keep that price exactly as it is. AutoCurr simply shows readers what it works out to in their own currency too. You maintain one source price instead of manually adding and updating USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, and other conversions.

Want an easier publishing workflow?

AutoCurr Free handles the automatic currency conversion. Pro is for publishers who work with prices regularly and want a quicker way to add, reuse, and manage them.

Instead of typing shortcodes, work with prices directly in the WordPress editor using Pro’s visual controls to insert, edit, and remove them. You can also select a price you’ve already typed and turn it into an AutoCurr price in a few clicks.

External Services

AutoCurr uses Frankfurter v2 to retrieve reference exchange rates when a conversion is required and no fresh cached rate is available. Requests are made server-side and include the requested source and target currency codes. AutoCurr does not send price amounts, post content, or the visitor’s IP address to Frankfurter. As with any server request, Frankfurter can see the website server’s outbound IP address.

Terms and privacy information

Site administrators can optionally configure Open Exchange Rates as a fallback when Frankfurter cannot return a rate. When enabled, AutoCurr sends the configured App ID and requests the provider’s USD-based rate table. It does not forward visitor IP addresses, price amounts or post content. Open Exchange Rates can see the website server’s outbound IP address. Both services receive an AutoCurr/version User-Agent.
